Easiest way is to insert the device, right click on it in your My Computer window, and choose format. THAT WILL ERASE EVERYTHING PERMANENTLY! So use it with caution.

I want to buy a Sandisk 4GB Extreme III Compactflash Card. On ebay and a few places on google they are around 100 pounds, but jessops are selling for twice that. I have read that there are many places selling fake CF cards, taking slow, budget 4GB cards and putting these expensive Scandisk lables on them. How do i tell if i have a fake card, and hence tell my credit card or paypall to give me my money back? Is there some software that interrogates the chip in the card and tells you exactly what it is, and hence a genuine card? Thanks for any helpful advice...

but i hav had bad experience with stick design cams, usually good functioning capabilities, but not so good quality

I've got a Lexar 512K Pro CF card that I have used in my three cameras off and on for the past 3 years. It has probably been filled and blanked about a hundred times. Each time I erase the card, I use the program that came with the card called "Lexar Image Rescue" which has a function in it that reformats the card back to factory specs.
The last time I used the card, however, it started giving me grief. It would only record about 75% of the photos I took. The other 25% (when I attempted to view them on my computer via the CF drive slot) were just....missing. There was no jump in the numbering system, it was as if they had just never been taken.
After using the "ImageRescue" program to run a deep scan on the card to recover all lost images (even ones that had been deleted) I found the missing images I had shot. However, they were "fused" together with other previously deleted images. Half would be one, and half the other.
Do I need to just toss this card, or keep hoping for the best?

I have a cf card and i'm having trouble formatting it. When i try formating it on the computer it freezes! Doses anyone know a alternative to formating the card or corrupting it on purpose because i do not want the data on it. Please any help well be deeply appreciated.

Or, are the variety of brands all the same? I'm looking at a 4G card that costs around $38.00. Reasonable?
